We are based on Phuket Island in Thailand.  Our base is a spectacularly beautiful location in the SE of Phuket at Ao Yon Bay.  We have four yachts and 6 International dragon Boats as well as a training School.  Our school is 50 metres from the beach, on a hill overlooking the beautiful anchorage of Ao Yon.  Our yachts are  moored only a hundred metres off the shore.

Our Gap Year courses are designed to give you skills, knowledge and opportunities to join delivery crews, racing crews and participate in yacht charter. The ‘gap’ year gives you a unique opportunity to improve your CV. With Sail in Asia your gap year training has the distinctive attraction of tropical waters and an Oriental setting.

Australians, Europeans and New Zealanders travel to Thailand in large numbers and often book courses to improve their sailing skills or qualifications. Those who qualify with Sail in Asia often remain in contact and often return for further courses.

Major universities all over the world advocate the “Gap Year’. Famously, Harvard’s admission policy recognizes the necessity of ‘time out’ before ‘bum out’. Many top universities recognize the ‘gains’ made by students when they take a gap year.

Our sailing courses are designed for gap year students, to dip into, for short or extended periods (5 days to 3 months). Our gap year trainees sail a variety of yachts. They gain knowledge of navigation, seamanship, boat handling and obtain valueable IYT Certification (IYT Watchleader, IYT Bareboat Captain and STCW95).

Our Basic Sailing Instructor Course is designed to bring you from a beginner to a Sailing Instructor, in only 3 months .  The course involves you taking courses that are interesting, thorough, high quality and extremely enjoyable and what’s more look really good on your CV. IYT Certification is recognized all over the world and will also enable you to find work in the sailing industry, when you are on holiday, or while you complete your university course.

Possibly you may wish to work on a superyacht as an alternative.  Our STCW95 course enables you to do just this.  With your Bareboat Captain qualification you can help to deliver yachts, race yachts and help with yacht charter.  The work component of this course is also an opportunity for you to become technically proficient so that you can deal with problems on boats effectively.
